They were looking for a small generator so they could use to power their computer while they were out camping.
Explain how they might do this with the motor they found?.. You could say hook-up a propeller to the shaft and turn it into a wind turbine. The power will not be regulated so I don't know how practical this really will be.

You could say connect a propeller to the pole and transform it into a wind turbine. The force won't be directed so I don't know how commonsense this truly will be.
