Title: Prokaryotes smaller than eukaryotes but still carry on all life functions? Post by: microbeman on Aug 22, 2011 Hi,
How can prokaryotic cells be smaller than eukaryotic cells and still carry on all the functions of life? Thanks! Title: Re: Prokaryotes smaller than eukaryotes but still carry on all life functions? Post by: star on Aug 22, 2011 Hi Microman ;D
Eukaryotic cells must be large enough to hold a nucleus and a mitochondrion (the minimum number of organelles). Prokaryotic cells contain molecules needed to carry on metabolic activities, but do not contain membrane-enclosed organelles, which require extra space.
