I've heard that the mucilage inside cacti can be used as an adhesive.  What is the process involved in doing this?

Native Americans used this mucilage to mend broken pottery.

Mucilage is a polar glycoprotein; an exopolysaccharide; a polymer produced by most plants and some microorganisms.  The mucilage of cactus plants can be harvested by etching the surface of a cactus with a razor blade and collecting the juices with a syringe.
