Good day,

I'm struggling to grasp the difference between thermoreceptors and electromagnetic receptors in neurobiology.

My textbook defines electromagnetic receptors as 'sensory receptors that detect various forms of electromagnetic energy' and thermoreceptors as 'sensory receptors that detect heat and cold'

I know that thermal energy is transferred by infrared radiation (part of the electromagnetic spectrum) from physics. Applying this to definitions provided by my textbook does that mean that thermoreceptors are merely a sub category of electromagnetic receptors?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.
