The ears and throat are connected to another so if there is an infection with one, it may travel along to another. The loss of hearing is caused due to the inflammation of the Eustachian tube. When this tube is inflammed, if is larger than normal and creates pressure which can also be accompanied with pain. The manifestations of a sinus infection or tonsillitis would not include auditory compromise. The inner ear is not indicated in this patient scenario.
