Title: A bag containing 10% fructose is placed in a container containing 5% fructose and H2O? What will happen?
Post by: smmiller223 on Mar 18, 2013
The bag containing 10% fructose is impervious to fructose but water can enter. So will water enter the bag from  the container? or Will water move into the bag and fructose come out of the bag even though its given that the bag is impervious to fructose?

The bag containing 10% fructose will become more dilute: water molecules will diffuse via osmosis through the partially permeable bag, from the solution of 5% fructose and H20 because it's going from an area of high water potential to an area of low water potential. The fructose molecules are too big to go anywhere so the water outside the bag will diffuse into the bag.
