Title: digitalis and ultimate effect on on cytoskeletal protein
Post by: faraz on Sep 5, 2010
What specific cytoskeletal protein has its function altered as the ultimate effect of digitalis?

What course is this for?

I would say alpha-adducin

Moreover, Digitalis also disrupts cytoskeletal functions by inhibiting alpha-tubulin polymerization into microtubules!

Faraz:

Digitalis alkaloids: Na+/ K+-ATPase inhibitors => intracellular Na+ raises => Na+/Ca2+ exchange less efficient => Ca2+ intracellular increases => stronger contractions

high intracellular Ca2+ ions can inhibit the assembly of microtubules (tubulin being the major component of cytoplasmic microtubules) and, therefore, play a role in the regulation of microtuble formation.

Makes sense?
