Title: Physioex 9 Ex 3 Act 3 Post Lab Action Potential HELP PLS! Post by: aryannaf on Apr 21, 2013 Part D
If an increase in extracellular potassium "hyperpolarizes" a neuron, which of the following would be correct? a. It would decrease the flow of sodium out of the cell. b. It would change the membrane potential to a less negative value. c. It would increase the flow of sodium out of the cell. d. It would change the membrane potential to a more negative value. Thx! :s Title: Re: Physioex 9 Ex 3 Act 3 Post Lab Action Potential HELP PLS! Post by: Augustine on Apr 21, 2013 Well I am going to try and answer - I may be wrong - and if so I hope someone corrects us !
K+ on the outside of the cell wall (extracellular) would mean the charge is more negative inside the cell relative to the increased positive k+ ions outside so D) ? Also since sodium (Na+?) is a positive charge it makes sense the cell would try and keep positive charge inside the cell to maintain charge equilibrium so it would decrease the flow of Sodium out fo the cell so also A) ? I am only looking at it from a charge perspective - like to get some feedback too to see if this is right. |
