Title: Anticancer drugs work by targeting rapidly dividing cells, cancer patients being treated
Post by: mandy! on May 28, 2013
1.) two clients meet with there physician, client A has low heart rate and low stroke volume, client B has high heart rate high stroke volume, which cliet has the greater venous return?

2.)anticancer drugs work by targeting rapidly dividing cells, cancer patients being treated with the anticancer drugs are monitered closely for changes in their red and white blood cell counts, why so?

3.)joe is playing football, when he is tackled so hard that he breaks a rib, he can actually feel a piece of the rib sticking through the skin and he is having difficulty breathing, joe is probably suffering from??

4.) nurse jones is assesing a client with possible glucocorticoid excess(crushing syndrome) in a client with crushing syndrome, the nurse would expect to find___??

I would say a rib fracture, though I am not positive? Are these MC questions without the options provided?

Many things to choose from...

Symptoms include rapid weight gain, particularly of the trunk and face with sparing of the limbs (central obesity). A common sign is the growth of fat pads along the collar bone and on the back of the neck and a round face often referred to as a "moon face." Other symptoms include hyperhidrosis (excess sweating), telangiectasia (dilation of capillaries), thinning of the skin (which causes easy bruising and dryness, particularly the hands) and other mucous membranes, purple or red striae (the weight gain in Cushing's syndrome stretches the skin, which is thin and weakened, causing it to hemorrhage) on the trunk, buttocks, arms, legs or breasts, proximal muscle weakness (hips, shoulders), and hirsutism (facial male-pattern hair growth), baldness and/or extremely dry and brittle hair.

In rare cases, Cushing's can cause hypercalcemia, which can lead to skin necrosis. The excess cortisol may also affect other endocrine systems and cause, for example, insomnia, inhibited aromatase, reduced libido, impotence in men, amenorrhoea/oligomenorrhea and infertility in women due to elevations in androgens. Studies have also shown that the resultant amenorrhea is due to hypercortisolism, which feeds back onto the hypothalamus resulting in decreased levels of GnRH release. Patients frequently suffer various psychological disturbances, ranging from euphoria to psychosis. Depression and anxiety are also common.

The reasons are quite obvious. Blood gets produced on a daily basis. These anti-cancer drugs could disrupt this process, therefore decreasing blood count.
