Title: Fluorspar (CAF2) is to be dried under constant-rate drying from 6 to 0.4% moisture (on dry basis)
Post by: cloveb on Sep 19, 2017
Fluorspar (CAF2) is to be dried under constant-rate drying from 6 to 0.4% moisture (on dry basis) in a counter current adiabatic rotary dryer at a rate of 18000 lb/h of bone-dry solids. the heating air enters the dryer at 1000oF with a humidity of 0.03 and a wt bulb temperature of 150oF. The specific heat of solid is 0.48 BTU/lb.oF. The solis enter the dryer at 70oF and leave at 150oF. The maximum allowable mass velocity of the air is 2000 lb/ft2.h

b) What would be the diameter and the length of the dryer if the number of heat transfer units Nt = 2.2.?

c) What is the change of the diameter and the length of the dryer if Nt=1.8 and K=0.5?

Given: specific heat of water: 1BTU/lb.f; specific heat of water vapor: 0.45 BTU/lb.f; latent heat of water evaporation at 150oF: 1008.1BTU/lb; specific heat of air (only) 0.24 BTU/lb/f.
