What role does a transcription factor play in a signal transduction pathway?
A. By binding to a plasma membrane receptor it initiates a cascade.
B. It relays a signal from the cytoplasm to the plasma membrane.
C.It activates relay proteins.
D. By binding to DNA it triggers the transcription of a specific gene.

Transcription factors produced as a result of a signal transduction cascade can, in turn, activate yet more genes.  Therefore an initial stimulus can trigger the expression of an entire cohort of genes, and this, in turn, can lead to the activation of any number of complex physiological events.

So to me answer is (A). By binding to a plasma membrane receptor it initiates a cascade
