Interior places of the continents far away from any large water surface(sea, ocean, big lakes etc) will have large fluctuations in temperature. The reason is that water surface has a buffering effect. As the specific heat of water is more than that of the soil, it does not allow the temperature of the adjacent land region to rise abnormally in summer and in the same way it does not allow the temperature to fall abnormally in winter.
