Since Chris is going eastward and Pamela is driving south, you can represent this as a triangle with one leg being the distance Chris goes and the other being the distance Pamela goes. The hypotenuse would be the distance that they are away from each other.

Now, you must convert mph to miles. So, multiple 30 mph by 4 hours and 60 mph by 4 hours to get the length of the "legs" of the triangle.

Finally, you use pythagorean theorem (a^2+b^2=c^2) to find the length of the hypotenuse which is equal to the distance they are away from each other after 4 hours.
