This birth was especially unique because a failed pregnancy in 2009 had left the mother infertile. Conservation officials intervened, and she was able to conceive and give birth to a healthy baby. As deforestation continually decreases the orangutan’s natural habitat, human intervention and sanctuaries become increasingly important to maintain biodiversity.
