what is the oxidation number of Lithium?

I'm really confused with all this oxidation number stuff I'm learning. Lithium has 3 electrons, so does this mean it's oxidation number would be -1 since it needs to lose 1 electron in order to be stable?
I need help! thanks

remember that the charge of the electron is negative.If the element loses an electron then that means that you have more protons (positive charges) than electrons(negative charge). therefore lithium would be +1.
