The Phalen's test is used to identify and rate carpal tunnel. The only applicable answer related to carpal tunnel testing is #2

You're right. Phalen’s test involves holding the wrists in acute flexion against one another for 60 seconds, which isn’t possible following upper extremity amputation. Numbness and burning in the fingers could indicate carpal tunnel syndrome. The presence of a leg cast, compression stocking, or hip pain would not deter the nurse from completing the exam.

2. You need a wrist in order to do a Phalen's test.  Slight Smile

You would be able to do the opposite side though, unless it was amputated as well.

Always document 'unable to assess' or 'UTA' on any patient with amputation, otherwise it looks like you skipped that area of the assessment.
