Heating removes something from the metallic substance to make calx.

Is this a reasonable hypothesis?
How would you test the hypothesis?
Can you think of an alternative hypothesis that could also explain the observations?

No, because heating could mean anything (how much heat?) - relative to what? What is the metallic substance?

How would you test the hypothesis?

Vary the amount of heat - 20, 30, 40, 50 degrees, but keep the metallic substance, its weight, constant.
