Determine whether the following statements are true or false. If false you must give a simple reason explaining why.

a.   The ultimate source of energy to support most life on Earth is sunlight.

b.   The overall function of the Calvin cycle is to capture energy from sunlight

c.   Calvin cycle enzymes are embedded in the thylakoid membrane.

d.   Cyclic photophosphorylation involves both photosystems I and II, and results in the production of NADPH, O2, and ATP.

e.   C4 plants avoid the problem of photorespiration by spatial separation of the reactions involved in carbon fixation and the Calvin cycle.

f.   Chloroplasts and mitochondria both generate ATP by chemiosmosis, which involves electron transport chains, the active transport of H+ ions, and diffusion of H+ through ATP synthase.

g.   An oak tree would be a classic example of a CAM plant.

a.   The ultimate source of energy to support most life on Earth is sunlight.  True

b.   The overall function of the Calvin cycle is to capture energy from sunlight. False – photosynthesis

c.   Calvin cycle enzymes are embedded in the thylakoid membrane. False – Chlorophyll is embedded in the thylakoid membrane.

d.   Cyclic photophosphorylation involves both photosystems I and II, and results in the production of NADPH, O2, and ATP. False – Cyclic only involves system I and only produces ATP, not NADPH or O2.

e.   C4 plants avoid the problem of photorespiration by spatial separation of reactions involved in carbon fixation and the Calvin cycle. – True

f.   Chloroplasts and mitochondria both generate ATP by chemiosmosis, which involves electron transport chains, the active transport of H+ ions, and diffusion of H+ through ATP synthase. – True

g.   An oak tree would be a classic example of a CAM plant. False – Cactus
