The rapid pace of new knowledge about genes and complex molecules - about how to analyze, control and manipulate them - is changing everything from medicine to the DNA identification of ancient life forms entombed in glacial ice. For the next few decades, all biologists, from doctors and dentists to agricultural experts and scientists working to restore endangered species, will be using the emerging knowledge of genes and complex molecules to understand life more deeply and to enhance and preserve life forms for the benefit of all. Today's young biologist is on the doorstep of a revolution in life science that will change humankind in ways we can only imagine. There has never been a more exciting era in which to study biology and to work in it as a career.
