Penn State focused on profits to fund university activities, and the football program was extremely profitable. What Penn State overlooked is that profits should not be the sole objective of an organization (particularly a university); profits should the consequences of operating in an efficient, effective and responsible manner. An organization develops a misguided culture when it puts profits ahead of how those profits are generated.
