Old people afraid of dying in sleep?

Why are older people afraid they might die in their sleep? Any gerontologists in here? I would think the odds of death would be least in an unconscious state with less histamine and inflammation? What threatens their life?

I've never met any old person who has vocalized their concern of dying in their sleep, either to me or anyone I know. In my opinion, people die in their sleep due to underlying condition that haven't been addressed or diagnosed by a medical professional. I don't think people just die from being old.
