Joan had practiced thoroughly for the state track meet. However, the day of the meet was hot with high humidity. Arriving late, Joan did not have much time to warm up for the half-mile sprint.
 
  Once the race began, Joan felt her chest tighten up and her breathing became very uncomfortable, and she had to stop midway in the race.
 
  What do Joan's symptoms indicate, what are some causative factors, and how could her symptoms have possibly been prevented or now relieved?
