A 1 to 4 dilution of serum is to be made on a sample that is outside of the linear range of the instument. The total volume of the dilution is to be 100 uL. What volumes of serum and diluents are needed? (this is review homework, not worth much points), but it is for future reference, what would the formula be? can't figure it out  Frowning Face thanks

Format 1 + 3 = 1:4

1 volume of undiluted serum + 3 volumes of saline = 4 volumes of a 1:4 dilution. Since 4 ml is too great a volume with which to work, use 0.01 ml undiluted serum + 0.39 ml saline = 0.4 ml of a 1:4 dilution.
