The pictures shown below are from an experiment in which osteoblasts (bone forming
  cells) were cultured on a poly(ethylene glycol)-based hydrogel material with different
  concentrations of a covalently-linked RGD peptide sequence (designated as Acr-PEG-RGD)
  for 2 or 24 hours. This peptide sequence is known to bind to integrin receptors to promote
  cell attachment and spreading. (Figure reprinted with permission from 18).)
