Children with autism may show either hyposensitivity or hypersensitivity to certain stimuli. They may be oblivious to heat, cold, or pain but show extreme distress when they hear certain sounds or are touched unexpectedly. These sensory differences may be linked to the type of socio-communicative skills seen in individuals with autism.
