What might be the problem of a person who complains of a sharp cramping pain in the lower back on the left side, which radiates down toward the pelvis?

This person most likely has a kidney stone. This problem can be diagnosed by making an X-ray of the kidney, ureter, and bladder on that side of the body. Stones will appear as solid white objects on the X-ray, as they are of greater density than many of the surrounding tissues. The radiopaque dye that is introduced into the urinary system will also reveal the blockage location.
