  By the time the last Sutherland sister died virtually penniless in 1946, the public had all
  but forgotten the famous sisters. Their ornate mansion, which had been bought and turned
  into a museum, burned to the ground in 1938 and with it much of the memorabilia of the
  sisters' years of fame. The Sutherland Sisters were one of the most popular entertainment
  acts of the 1880s, the first celebrity models and pioneers in the marketing of beauty products.
  But who remembers them today? Perhaps the fleeting nature of fame is what today's
  celebrities can best learn from the Sutherland Sisters.
