If a toddler seizes or loses consciousness, the tongue may obstruct the airway. This obstruction by the tongue is even more likely at this age because:
 
  a. the tongue is large in proportion to the size of the mouth
  b. children do not have as great a muscle control as adults
  c. younger children gag more easily than older children and adults
  d. the airway is smaller in the toddler than in the adult
