A scientific theory proposes an understanding of phenomena that has developed based on the results from numerous observations and hypotheses that have been tested independently many times, and a majority of scientists believe it to have significant explanatory power because the best available science supports it. A theory is subject to rejection if enough evidence accumulates against it.
