The ancient Greeks did not make extensive use of technology in theatre, but they did use two devices the mechane and the ekkyklema. The mechane was a crane used to lift actors, usually portraying a god, above the skene. The ekkyklema, was a platform on wheels with a scene displayed on it that could be rolled out of the central doors to display a tableaua visual scene depicting the aftermath of an offstage event.
