Understanding that a commitment to change involves a great deal of ambivalence
helps social workers in their work with clients because:

  a. it can facilitate the amount of depth and exploration that a person goes into
  with a social worker.
  b. it can help the social worker relate and understand to how the client may be
feeling during the process of the work.
  c. it can facilitate conversations that illuminate the ambivalence for a specific
person and help the person find his or her way to a decision about what to
  do.
  d. it can help the client feel more comfortable and at ease because the social
worker may be more attuned to how they are feeling about the work.
