When mouse satellite DNA is digested with EcoRI, the result is a series of fragments 234 bp in length, as well as fragments that are exactly 2 and 3 this length. Explain these results.

Ans: 234 bp is the size of a repeat in the satellite DNA, and it carries an EcoRI restriction site. The multimers of this repeat result from random mutation of the restriction site in some repeats, eliminating the site.
