1)  Students should list and describe citizen patrols, citizen police academies, and civilianization. Citizen patrols are preventive programs staffed by citizen volunteers. Citizen police academies provide training experience that offers citizens an opportunity to learn about the policing profession and even to experience some of the same situations that uniformed officers experience. Civilianization is a law enforcement agencys hiring of non-sworn personnel to replace or augment its corps of sworn officers in an effort to reduce costs and improve service.
