Answer to #1

D

Answer to #2

Age categories (such as toddlers, teens, young adults, elderly) are powerful
determinants of family expectations, power, privilege, status. As each individual
progresses along the age trajectory these change. As each joins a new portion of the
stratified group in the kin system their lives and the lives of those around them are
affected. Students will have examples of these conditions from which to draw evidence.

Answer to #3

Professional baseball wives are very much like other wives when they enter marriage.
Gmelch and San Antonio show that they make the adjustments to the marriage situation
that most women also do in America, conforming to traditional gender roles for wives,
sacrificing for their husbands career, but in the process and due to the high mobility and
visibility of their husband, also become very independent and resourceful in managing
children and the family. In the process, baseball wives often gain status in their affiliation
with their husband, are admired for their personal beauty, but also find that their personal
identity centers around her husbands standing, rather than her own. Because of the high
mobility of baseball payers, wives seldom have independent careers, or must limit them.
They have to become self-reliant because they are constantly moving and cannot develop
friendships, community support groups, or a sense of permanence. There is high
uncertainty in the relationship, as success and a career can be very fleeting. Wives often
must learn to assume full responsibility for managing the home and children, with frequent
new requirements imposed with little warning.
