Both used for breathing , lungs breath air , gills breath dissolved oxygen gas in water.
lungs use negative pressure to move air over the capillaries , gills need locomotion to move water over the gills. lung internal , gills exposed

Lungs and Gills are similar in that they are both gas exchange surfaces. They share characteristics of most exchange surfaces like a very large surface area, and a good blood supply, as well as very thin walls. All of these features are needed to ensure the fastest possible diffusion rate of substances. I don't think you can really call a lung an inside out gill though, structurally they are both very different, and have functions for different organisms. In humans and other organisms with lungs, the lungs are on the inside of the body to prevent them from drying out, and we have to breath so that there is a constant replenishment of the air supply to ensure fast diffusion. In fish, simply the movement of water across the gills is enough as they are constantly moving. Also gills take oxygen from water where lungs take oxygen from air.
