Consonant and dissonant cultures can be found in many organizations. It is important to understand the differences between a consonant and a dissonant organization culture to improve an organization’s culture. Select an organization (a hospital unit, home care agency, school, or other clinical site that you have worked in as a student or staff or you might choose your school, other schools attended, an organization you belong to, and so on). Determine if the culture of that organization is consonant or dissonant, and provide your rationale. When you are doing your assessment, use the characteristics of a dysfunctional or dissonant organization culture. You will also want to consider how members of the organization share values, group behavior norms, and communication methods with new members. Is the organization adaptive, and in what ways? Is it rigid and what effect does this have on its members (staff)? What is your feeling about the organization? We all get these feelings when we have been in an organization. How comfortable does it feel to be in the organization? What influences your reaction? (Online Application Option)
