Describe the characteristics of regions dominated by fault-block mountains such as the Basin and Range. What is their relationship to plate tectonics and why don't they create large-scale areas of orogenesis like Andean-Type margins or continental collisions?

The crust in the Basin and Range has been elongated through tensional stress and dominated by normal faults that join at a basal detachment fault. Currently, it is not directly related to any tectonic boundary but results from the stress of long-distance plate boundaries stretching the area. In this environment, the relatively small mountain ranges are caused by tensional stress and not typical orogenic processes (compressional forces; convergent boundaries).
