The second part of empathyexpressing your empathy back to the speakercan best be accomplished in two steps corresponding to the two parts of true empathy: thinking empathy and feeling empathy. In communicating thinking empathy, you express an understanding of what the person means. (Example: paraphrasing the message, nodding your head). In communicating feeling empathy, you express your feeling of what the other person is feeling. (Example: showing a facial expression, gesturing). Examples will vary.
