In the recent history of the nature-nurture debate, there has been an emotional upheaval when any idea suggesting biological determinism has been proposed. Efforts to define intelligence and to determine how best to measure it continue in contemporary psychology. Perhaps greater understanding of these debates will come when it is realized that they are essentially moral, philosophical, or political but not scientific. Today, most psychologists believe that both inheritance and experience are factors in intelligence. The argument now mainly concerns the relative contributions of each.
