The NoSQL movement is a school of thought and a group of application developers who want to use non-relational data structures and/or bypass SQL as a DML. The non-relational database structures of the NoSQL movement are often known as structured storage. An example of NoSQL is the Apache Software Foundation's Cassandra database, which powers Facebook and Twitter. Some relational database vendors are trying to accommodate the movement without giving up the relational underpinnings of their products.
