ATP and calcium are the "toll" that must be present and "paid" to move muscles. ATP provides the energy to help the myosin heads form and break the cross bridges with actin. When the muscle is relaxed, calcium is stored away from the actin and myosin. When the muscle is stimulated, calcium is released, which allows actin, myosin, and ATP to interact.
