From what I understand, however, is that during translation, the ribosome seeks the start codon or a special sequence on the mRNA called the "Shine-Dalgarno sequence". The ribosome stops translating once it reaches the stop codon, where it dissociates from the mRNA strand. 3' and 5' ends do not apply here.
