Consider the function f(x)=8x+6x^-1. For this function there are four important intervals:
— 00, A], [A, B),(B, C], and [C, 00) where A, and C are the critical numbers and the
function is not defined at B.

and C Preview
For each of the following open intervals, tell whether f(x) is increasing or decreasing.
— m, A): Increasing
(A, B): Decreasing
(B, C): Decreasing
(c, 00)
Note that this function has no inflection points, but we can still consider its concavity. For
each of the following intervals, tell whether f(x) is concave up or concave down.
— m, B : Concave Down v
(B, 00): Concave Up
