Assertive communication presents the best opportunity for two people to work together, compromise, and come up with a solution that is acceptable to both. It results in a win-win solution, which is the goal of conflict resolution. It should be obvious that assertive communication is the only acceptable communication style at work. You must have enough self-respect to state your needs openly and honestly. You must not allow yourself to be "walked on," pitied, or tempted to do something underhanded and sneaky to get even. Professionals look out for themselves but do it in a way that shows respect for the needs and desires of their coworkers.
