Suggested Responses: Each of the following stages should be accurately described: prephonemic stage, phonemic stage, transitional stage, and the conventional writing stage. Students should comment that variations are likely to occur depending on children's experiences with print. Too, they should note that some cultures more often utilize non-written modes of expression like storytelling or include different tools in their writing.
