I think that's a British tradition for British people. Michael Phelps and Michael Jordan are American, so they wouldn't participate in this ritual.

There are Sports Legends in the above sports.

Sir Donald Bradman, Cricket - Australia
Sir Richard Hadlee, Cricket - New Zealand
Sir Vivian Richards, Cricket - West Indies

Perhaps it's only done for national sports. Basketball is Canadian, baseball is America. Just a thought, but not certain

Thanks for sharing the link. Hockey is mostly designated/adopted by countries of colder climates (Canada, Russia, parts of USA) and mostly 1st world countries because it's expensive to learn and play on ice. Are you sure India has a hockey team?

Hi prashantakerkar ... I was under the impression you were referring to ice hockey rather than *field hockey* Grinning Face with Smiling Eyes

I didn't know it was this popular internationally

All the non-gray regions are confederations of the sport. Whether or not it is an British-recognized sport is what determines if it receives the "knighting" recognition.
