Answer should indicate that each of the terms is an attempt to describe the relationship of immigrants to the rest of society. Nativism was a movement to further the interests of those who considered themselves native inhabitants (even though many were immigrants themselves!) and to protect American culture. Melting pot was considered a country where individuals abandoned their home language and cultures to become part of a new, homogenized nation. Cultural pluralism is the idea that people should maintain their ethnic languages, cultures, and customs while still participating in and being accepted by the whole society.
