The answer should reflect the information in Topic 12.2 "Types of Hearing Loss." The type of hearing loss selected may vary. The information on how a student is impacted may vary based upon the type of hearing loss selected. However, the information should reflect Topic 12.3 "Characteristics" and should correspond to the type of hearing loss selected." An example follows: Twenty percent of elementary students have a mild conductive hearing loss. Difficulties with this type of hearing loss disappear once the ear infection clears up. A conductive hearing loss that is not temporary can be corrected with a hearing aid, surgery, or other medical treatment. In either case, the student may not be impacted once correction occurs or might be minimally impacted with corrections.
