Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug, with a high potential for abuse and no currently accepted medical use in the United States. However, the medical community has identified medical uses for marijuana and a number of states have passed legislation legalizing the medical use of marijuana. Even in those states, possession of marijuana is still a violation of federal law. As part of the legalization debate, is it time for the federal government to rethink the classification of marijuana under the Controlled Substances Act? Why or why not?
