Do you feel Lighthouse operations can be automated by Robots?

Is it possible? Can there be benefits?

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant S Akerkar

I think lighthouses are an obsolete technology. All ships use some form of GPS navigation, VHF radio or other electronics to make its way where it wants to go. Countries like the USA are slowly stopping their use, whereas Germany has completely stopped using them. In all of Canada - according to Fisheries and Oceans Canada - there are 51 staffed lighthouses left, as of October 2017. In the US, the last officially manned lighthouse, Boston Light, was manned by the Coast Guard until 1998. It now has volunteer "keepers" whose primary role is to serve as interpretive tour guides for visitors. Therefore, adding this technology is not worth the time or effort.
